Institutions bowing to evil
Look around in the nations and see the Babylonian principle manifest. Because we haven’t guarded the soul and spirit of the institutions we built, they are rising up highly impacted by human weakness. Watch the clashes of the different groupings in society. They are more deeply rooted and they get more vivid expressions. Many are not by any means tamed by a self-governed, even rational approach. This is also a great indicator that the world is not just what we see. It is not just a material expression. There is more than what meets the natural eye and it is escalating. It goes beyond being a phenomenon that can be explained by psychology. We are seeing a spiritual battle for the souls of humanity and the destiny of nations right before our eyes. Media itself has become one of the players.
Like the Law became a teacher for Israel, so have our institutions become teachers for the people they affect. The question is if we are able to discern what spirit the institutions serve. Do we know the spirit of truth? We learn that there was a spiritual principality behind the tower of Babel, the spirit of Babylon. It is well recognized in our ‘humanistic’ view of life, where mankind is considered the center of reality and the measure of all things.
It is vital that we, the people of God, let Jesus wash us clean in every area of our lives, so we can walk through the gates of enemy territory and bring the Kingdom of God to these places. Often this implies tearing down the strongholds and the structures that bind the prisoners. The issue is always one of Lordship. Who is my God? Who is my source, my provider, my savior, my guide, my protector and all that follows? God doesn’t take lightly that we replace Him with idols that serve in His place.
Our spiritual battle calls for better equipping and a stronger armor. We cannot fight a level 9 enemy with level 5 armor. God can’t send his people into a battle they are not equipped for. Are we preparing for the toppling of institutions in our nations? It will be messy, but this will be the opportunity for prisoners to escape and for the Kingdom of God to advance. This is a Kingdom of the heart, not of external structure. It is relational and builds around community. Any institution we establish must be guarded with prayer, accountability, truth and character. If we let go of any of these we will drift and give space for enemy attacks.
God is far greater than the stories of our corporate expressions. He will indeed guide the big story into the purposes He has. We will see a sovereign ruler of the universe be glorified. Let us get equipped and work alongside him, making sure there are as few casualties as possible along the road. The battle is not against flesh and blood!
